I run all the games you can imagine, no huhu, and top settings.
Outlook Slow Spinning Wheel How To Speed ItPress question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts Log in sign up User account menu 25 Why is Office 2016 so goddamned slow And how to speed it up.Also, Ive now got two copies of everything in the two different formats, which makes navigating through folders a little weird sometimes. So, I did a start-up test today with Outlook, Word, and Excel, vs Mail, Pages, and Numbers. Outlook Slow Spinning Wheel Mac Mini LateMy results are interesting: For the record, Ive got a Mac Mini Late 2014 base model (so 4gb RAM, 1.4ghz Haswell, regular 500 GB HDD, etc etc). Not changing any of it until I buy a new machine in 3-4 years, so dont tell me to do that For the experiment, I timed from the clicking of the icon to on, on meaning open and ready to select a file or do business or whatever. Cold start (i.e. computer just turned on), the apps not running: Outlook 40s Word 45s Excel 30s (I made a mistake, and started, force quit, then restarted timing) Mail 8s Pages 3s Numbers 5s I did a second start (so, theyd been turned on once, above, and then I restarted them): Outlook 4s Word 24s Excel 17s For the Mac apps, they opened at exactly, or roughly, the same speed as before. So, why are MS apps so slow Its going to really hurt my feelings to have to use it when starting it up is so slow. Can break work flow to click on a file from an email attachment, and then have it take 3000 years to open. ![]() Upvoted This thread is archived New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast Sort by best. As much as I would love to just use pages, my university have problems opening the files, even when theyre converted so Im stuck using word for the moment. ![]() I also found a Microsoft Answers question suggests its a bug with Office 2016 Im not sure what could be done, theres a few apparent fixed located within the Microsoft Answers page that seem to work for some people so it may be worth giving some of them a try level 2 1 point 4 years ago Thanks for the link, Ill have a look. Im a university teacher, and for a while, I got away with just doing stuff on my machine then converting it. However, Im in some projects now, and theres a new intro-university system, so, Im back to working mostly in Word and Excel, sadly. Continue this thread level 1 2 points 4 years ago I have Office 2016 but rarely use it, so I was curious to see what kind of times I got: Word 6s Excel 6s Im using the 2015 12 MacBook, perhaps the difference is related to HDD vs. SSD speeds I didnt try opening Outlook because its not configured on my MacBook, but I will say that on my work Dell laptop, Outlook takes forever to open. Probably because I have many.pst files attached with many gigabytes of data. These are massive programs and it may be taking a long time to read all the requisite data. That doesnt mean some fine tuning on Microsofts part couldnt help a lot, but thats what Im guessing. Had terrific results using Mail instead - everything seems to work, receivingsending, outlook reminders, contact syncing, meeting appointments working just fine. With the disk I had launch times similar to OP and can confirm that now with the SSD they open in under 10 seconds. Im guessing its because its not first party, and its a lot heavier than the Apple apps. People like the Office suite because its consistent, powerful, and keeps legacy features. I know you dont want to upgrade, but the fact that you bought a machine with 4GB of RAM and a 5400 RPM hard drive in 2014 is kind of absurd to me.
